Frequently Asked Questions
Veterinary Care and Services
General Pet Care
Primarily Dogs and Cats. Please do not hesitate to call with any exotic or pocket pets, but a referral may be necessary on a case-by-case basis.
We provide the best possible general practice, urgent care, diagnostics, surgery, and dentistry services.
We recommend annual visits for most pets, but seniors or pets with health issues may need more frequent check-ups.
Please bring any previous medical records, a list of medications, and information about your pet’s diet and behavior.
Yes, here at Wheaton Way, appointments are required. Making an appointment helps to reduce wait times, and allows us to triage urgent cases. However, we are passionate about helping your pet receive the prompt and effective veterinary care they need when they need it.
Our practice prioritizes same-day appointments when possible, with at least one veterinarian on-site at all times, six days a week, to accept urgent visits at short notice.
Urgent Care & Emergency
We offer same-day appointments for urgent care cases. We do not offer after-hours emergency care. If this is what you need, please contact your closest emergency hospital, we recommend Animal Emergency and Specialty Center in Poulsbo, (360) 697-7771.
Signs like difficulty breathing, excessive bleeding, or seizures warrant immediate attention. If you’re unsure, call our clinic for advice.
We offer urgent care during business hours, but for after-hours emergencies, visit a nearby emergency hospital.
Dental Care
We recommend annual dental check-ups and cleanings to prevent issues like gum disease and tooth decay.
Bad breath, difficulty eating, or pawing at the mouth are signs your pet may need a dental check-up.
Diagnostics & Lab Work
We offer blood work, X-rays, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic services to ensure accurate treatment.
Diagnostic testing is sent to our external laboratory. Turnaround times are dependent on the type of test and the current workload of our lab personnel. Accuracy is tantamount to us as this allows us to treat your beloved pet properly so that we can reduce healing time. If we do conduct a lab test on your pet we’ll be sure to communicate the expected wait time as well as welcome you to call us at any time for an update. We use both voice and text to communicate lab results in a more timely manner.
Surgery
We perform spaying, neutering, mass removals, and other surgical procedures.
Follow any pre-surgery instructions provided, such as fasting, and ensure your pet has a quiet, comfortable place to rest after the procedure.
Prescription Refills
You can request refills through our online portal or by contacting the clinic. We also offer convenient home delivery.
Senior Pet Care
Senior pets may need more frequent check-ups, special diets, and regular screenings for common age-related health issues.
Wellness & Preventive Care
Core vaccines include rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. Additional vaccines may be recommended based on your pet’s lifestyle.
Regular use of vet-recommended flea and tick prevention treatments can help keep your pet safe year-round.
